Best places to experience Japan in London

To celebrate all things Japanese, as our language of the month, we have asked our Japanese tutor, Hisano Luttman, to suggest the best places to go around London for the sights, sounds and taste of Japan.

1. Atari-ya

Best supplier of fresh fish for sushi and sashimi. They have a few restaurants in London as well. Reasonable price and delicious. Visit their website for addresses of all their restaurants.

2. Lanka

9 Goldhurst Terrace, NW6 3HX London
Japanese people love French patisseries and we are quite good at producing them. Lanka make lovely cakes with a Japanese twist. They have a small cafe inside.

3. Minamoto Kitchoan

44 Piccadilly, W1J 0DS London
When you have a tea ceremony, you can't use western style cakes. You must get Japanese WAGASHI.

4. TK Trading

Any Japanese ingredients you need for your cooking you’ll find here. It’s the biggest in the UK.

5. Japan Centre

19 Shaftesbury Avenue, W1D 7ED London
When you need to shop for Japanese food in Central London, go to the Japan Centre.

6. Japan Foundation Library

Russell Square House, 10-12 Russell Square, WC1B 5EH London
They have a lot of books for your Japanese study. You can read them inside. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

7. Embassy of Japan in the UK

They show a Japanese film every month with free admission!
