CALL FOR ENTRIES: The Engine Room 2019

The Engine Room is pleased to announce its third international sound art competition for emerging sound artists. This year’s competition and events are organised in collaboration with IKLECTIK to celebrate their 5th anniversary.

Engine Room logoThe competition invites the submission of new sound art – including audio and audio-visual pieces, interactive works and performances, installations, sound sculptures and graphic scores - by 15 September 2019.

Submitted entries will be judged by a panel of experts including award-winning composers and sound artists Robin Rimbaud (Scanner), Kate Carr, and Eduard Solaz (Iklectik Art Lab).

Selected works will be eligible for a number of prizes and will feature in an accompanying exhibition at Iklectik Art Lab, London from 5-24 October, 2019.

Engine Room 2017 - ShadowlandThe 2017 competition was won by Laura Daly for her piece Shadowland, inspired by the sacred shadow theater of Cambodia, Sbek Thom.

Judge Janek Schaefer says: “At all stages of your career, opportunities are the only door to the future. Find them and apply for them. Create deadlines for your ideas, and do it! The Engine Room is an excellent one.”

The Engine Room is an initiative by Morley College London, continuing Morley’s legacy as a leading centre for experimental music and sound art. The competition is kindly supported by media partner The Wire and partner venue Iklectik Art Lab, and is sponsored by The Academia Technology Group, HBB Communications.
