Welcome to Spring Term
Happy New Year! Thank you for being part of the Morley learning community at Westminster Bridge Road, at the Morley Stockwell Centre, Lewington Centre, and at our range of learning locations in Lambeth. I am delighted you are with us.
As we start a new term it is important to provide a reminder that the 2017-18 edition of the Student Handbook 2017/18 is an essential source of information and is available for download from the College’s online learning environment, Moodle. The College prides itself on being responsive to the views, ideas and concerns of students, and as set out in the Handbook, there are many ways in which the College listens and responds to the needs of students. Please do share your feedback on your experiences at Morley with your student representatives and through completion of student surveys.
We are committed to maintaining a safe environment for all. If you are joining us for a new course this term, your tutor will share with you a short online film produced by the College which provides vital information about our collective commitment to Safeguarding and the Prevent Duty. The film is available via Moodle for you to view at any time.
Successful achievement of a course is always a moment of great personal satisfaction, and I hope you will feel motivated to progress your learning into next academic year and beyond. Please ask your tutor for guidance on your next course at Morley.
As you will undoubtedly have already seen, we are making progress with planned renovation of the entrance and foyer of the College buildings at Westminster Bridge Road. Please do look out for important information about our building project made available via Moodle, as well as via the digital signage and potentially also via email. I am especially grateful for your patience while this important work is progressed. Once completed we will benefit from a new, accessible entrance leading to an enhanced reception and foyer, complete with a hub for student services and studios for the new College internet radio station.
During the coming term I hope you’ll take the time to enjoy the distinctive cultural life of Morley, and join us for exhibitions of visual art, performances of music and theatre, public lectures, and a wide range of creative events held throughout the year. As ever at Morley there are lots of events to join us for this term including our Penny Lecture, “And Why Not Singing on Prescription?”, on 25 January, and the Morley Theatre Company’s performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream from 7 – 9 February. Please do also take time to visit the Morley Gallery, which opens with an exhibition by Joy Labinjo, Belonging, on 11 January.
Whether you’re seeking to develop your skills, gain academic qualifications or develop your career, I wish you every success in your studies here at Morley College London.
Dr Andrew Gower, Principal
