Community Learning at Morley shortlisted for Tes Award
We're excited to announce that the Morley College London Centre for Community Learning and Engagement has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Adult and Community Learning Provider of the Year category of the Tes FE Awards 2018.
The Awards, now in their seventh year, are a celebration of excellent and innovative practice across the Further Education sector. The Adult and Community Learning Provider of the Year category is new for this year’s awards, so we are especially delighted that our Community Learning provision has been shortlisted.
Our Community Learning team works with local groups and organisations to run courses for adults who are not able to access mainstream education because of difficult circumstances. The team supports people with low skills and no skills, older people who are socially isolated, people with mental health issues and homeless people. We collaborate with over 80 organisations to design bespoke courses, which we deliver in the venues familiar and accessible to our learners, such as community centres, children’s centres, and hostels, as well as on-site at the College.
I’ve developed so much more confidence, and have passed a QCF certificate course with flying colours, and am returning back to work next month. My health and wellbeing has really improved.
Connect and Discover student
Among the projects highlighted for the Tes FE Awards is Connect and Discover, which offered free short courses to help improve wellbeing through learning for adults experiencing mild and/or moderate mental health problems, and was part of a national Community Learning Mental Health research project. Student feedback from this project included “I’ve succeeded in growing something rooted and stable from my darkness,” and “I’ve developed so much more confidence, and have passed a QCF certificate course with flying colours, and am returning back to work next month. My health and wellbeing has really improved.”
The 2018 Tes FE Awards 2018 ceremony will be held at the Grosvenor House Hotel on 23 February.
