Bill Laurance to conclude residency with a special live masterclass
Having spent the last year as our Artist in Residence, keyboardist Bill Laurance from the Grammy Award-winning jazz ensemble Snarky Puppy will bid Morley farewell with a special live masterclass on 1 December - and we're inviting two unsigned bands to take part.
We've been delighted to have Bill over the last year, and the knowledge and expertise he has brought to the College has been invaluable for our students. To celebrate his residency, we'll be hosting a farewell event in the beautiful Holst Room, where Bill will perform live with two Morley students selected by the music department. But that's not all - we'll also be inviting two unsigned bands to perform during the event, with the unique opportunity to receive feedback and career advice from Bill himself.
Competition Entry Details
If you have a band and want to be considered for the show, get in touch with us on firstname.lastname@example.org and send us links to two original recordings of your work, along with a 150-word statement introducing your band and explaining why you'd like to be selected. All musical genres are welcome, but the pieces submitted should include improvised elements, such as solo sections. The deadline for submissions is 10am on 27 November 2017 - successful bands will be notified by the end of the day.
Bands must be based in the UK and unsigned in order to be eligible. Morley College can provide access to a grand piano, drum kit, microphones, PA system, and guitar and bass amps; any other equipment must be provided by the selected bands. Successful bands must be available from 3pm on 1 December for sound check, and should be prepared to play at least three pieces on the night. No cash alternative is available and Morley is unfortunately unable to pay for expenses. If you have any further queries, please email email@example.com.
