Morley Head of Music talks Michael Tippett on BBC4

Peter Collyer, the Head of Music and Performing Arts at Morley College, has appeared in a recent episode of BBC4's Tunes for Tyrants: Music and Power with Suzy Klein, talking about composer Michael Tippett.

The documentary series, which examines the role of music during the wartime years of the early 20th century, dedicated its third episode to the music of World War II and included a discussion of Tippett's classic oratorio A Child of Our Time. The piece was inspired by the assassination of a German diplomat by Jewish refugee Herschel Grynszpan and the subsequent Kristallnacht pogrom across Nazi Germany, and was completed while Tippett was the Director of Music at Morley College.
