Making Theatre at Morley

From this September we are launching our new Making Theatre programme of courses inspired by the vibrant and exciting UK Fringe scene.

We are opening up our studio theatre to emerging theatre companies, giving them the chance to showcase their scratch and full length shows at Morley College. This began with our Create Scratch Refine Repeat competition we ran in March, which saw winners Worklight Theatre Company & Joue Le Genre preview their Edinburgh Fringe shows in our Studio Theatre before heading up to the Edinburgh Fringe to perform at the infamous Pleasance Theatre.

As of September 2015 we are also hosting our own devising courses aimed at support new theatre companies. The Devising Theatre courses are aimed at theatre makers who are interested in making new work in the studio through a creative process of collaboration between artists, improvisation and experimentation.

Theatre companies such as Portmanteau, The Paper Birds and The Sleeping Trees along with all our tutors are practitioners, and bring this enthusiasm and fresh knowledge to their teaching.

We will also be running three Physical Theatre over the year, with a Directing Theatre course starting next year, all alongside our full range of acting courses for different levels.

The Physical Theatre courses will cover techniques which are aimed at teaching you thrilling ways of interpreting theatre text and stories.

Directing Theatre will be taught by Lisa Cagnacci, the Associate Artistic Director of Theatre 503. You will learn the techniques of directing and determine what’s needed to ensure a successful production and working within a time frame to achieve that success, as well as learning to make clear, informed artistic and creative choices.
