Morley & Virginia Woolf
Morley College is no stranger to excellent teachers in its 125 year history. Born out of the…
The first ever Morley College Catwalk show took centre stage on the 24 June 2016 in the Emma Cons Hall.
Inspired by their time in London and embarking on an exploration of the city, the show is the culmination of an intensive year’s work from students across three pathways: Textiles, Jewellery and Access to Fashion.
Guests were treated to a creative, innovative and imaginative show on the runway, showcasing Morley’s Visual and Digital Arts’ exceptional cross-curriculum programme, allowing students across departments to contribute to the production of the show.
Highlights from the collections include a directional menswear ensemble in neoprene by Malachi Miller, an Access to Fashion student and CAPS recipient who will go on to study Fashion Design Technology: Menswear at London College of Fashion this September.
The show is being overseen by the specialist tutors from the Jewellery, Access to Fashion, and Textiles departments, some of whom have had experience producing their own catwalk shows at London Fashion Week, London Collections: Men and New York Fashion Week.
Morley College is well known for its diverse student body, with our learners coming from all walks of life and levels of experience. Across all pathways, students show a keen determination to excel in their chosen field, with several overcoming many challenges to succeed.
As a student in the Textiles Department, collaborating with jewellery students on the Catwalk project has given me an interesting insight into their work and skills. It’s been fun to meet a new set of students, to share what we do as felters and to show off felt’s creative medium too. All together it helps to engage us further with the college and its wide range of classes.
Morley worked with students to promote the event to universities, industry professionals, fashion press and the local media.
Morley’s Access to Fashion student present their final collections in this inaugural catwalk show.
