Tutor Success Stories
A number of our tutors have enjoyed professional success both inside and outside their work at Morley. Here we highlight a handful of them…
Joanna Duchesne – ESOL
Joanna was recently nominated for an ELTon Award for her work with the Service Communications Cooperative in creating an Interactive Phoneme Chart. In developing the chart, Joanna produced 44 short interactive films on pronunciation, which can be accessed for free online and used by both students and teachers. The project was one of six finalists in the category of Innovation in Learner Resources. Click here for more information about the Interactive Phoneme Chart.
Sheila Vollmer – Sculpture
It’s shaping up to be an exciting summer for Sheila! In May she had two sculptures – "Cornish Blue 1" and "Cornish Blue 2" – displayed at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in the Spirit of Cornwall garden, which was sponsored by VTB Capital and won a Silver Gilt medal at the show. Click here for more information about the garden, or watch the BBC’s spotlight about the garden here:
Sheila’s also had another of her sculptures, "Twist", hung as part of the RA’s 250th Summer Exhibition, Art Made Now. The exhibition has been curated by Grayson Perry and is open to the public at the RA until Sunday 19 August. Find out more, and watch a video of Grayson Perry giving a tour of the exhibition, here.
Lastly, this summer Sheila will also have a number of smaller works displayed in the Courthouse Gallery in Ennistymon in Co. Clare, Ireland as part of a group show, Teeth Stronger Than Diamond. Find out more here.
Chloe Stephens – Acting and Performance
Chloe was recently awarded an Arts Council Lottery Grant for her company Page One Theatre, to develop of a new piece of theatre for 3-6 year olds called Rise and Fall. The piece will tour to seven notable London theatre venues in September and January, including Polka Theatre, Half Moon Theatre and Little Angel Theatre. Morley will be supporting the development of the piece by hosting Page One Theatre as a company in residence, and Chloe will use the experience of touring as a pilot for a children’s theatre touring project on the HND and or Level 3 Diploma courses, where students will create a piece and tour to local schools. Find out more about Page One Theatre here.
Denzil Forrester – Painting and Drawing
We were very excited to see Denzil being interviewed in The Guardian ahead of a retrospective exhibition of his paintings, From Trench Town to Porthowen, which ran in the Jackson Foundation Gallery in Cornwall from 26 May to 23 June. In the interview he speaks about his life and influences, his move to Cornwall, and the Windrush scandal. Read the full interview here.
