Property Strategy Update for December 2018
We’re Getting There…!
As many staff will already be aware, our fabulous new Reception and Student Services Hub is now open for business: the impressive new desk is where in-person enrolments now take place, and students need only go to the Reception to access all the support services that Luke Howson and his team provide. Students and staff can also now enjoy an additional informal workspace, and socialise in the comfortable seating area. It also provides a useful area for functions and events, as last weekend’s Winter Fair has already proved. By Christmas the Radio Studio Suite should be completed, and we look forward to a wide variety of students and staff visiting the studio during the spring term to help Camilo Salazar develop the content for Morley Radio.
Sadly, not everything has gone to plan and we received the news only last week that the main contractor for the project has gone into administration, leaving the new entrance tower and courtyard only partially completed. This has come as rather a surprise, since they were a well-established firm who had successfully completed projects in other colleges and public institutions and had come with good references and a healthy financial position when appointed. We are, therefore, having to make alternative arrangements to finish the job, and have initiated the process of defining the scope of works and tendering for a new contractor to complete the outstanding works. Unfortunately, the way in to the College will have to remain via the QE2 entrance for the time being: many thanks to everyone for your continued patience and understanding.
We’ll provide an update when we have a better idea as to how long completion will now take, and when it finally comes we will be sure to provide an opportunity to celebrate!
