It has been a busy summer for many of the theatre companies that will be coming to Morley this autumn as part of our theatre master classes. All of the companies have been performing as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with a month long run of shows.

Sleeping Trees produced two shows at the festival, Mafia? and Western? at the Pleasance. Each receiving four and five star reviews, the one reviewer writing about Western?, “The whole team have created a dynamic and punchy show that pulls a laugh from your throat at every turn.” They will be leading the master class on Sunday 11 October.

Portmanteau, who includes Morley’s Head of Theatre and Performance Melissa Booth, took their show Boxed In to Edinburgh, with one review describing the show, “Portmanteau have created a smart, touching and witty examination of the myriad ways boys and girls are conditioned into the men and women they become.” Their master class will be on Sunday 18 October.

November’s master class is led by The Paper Birds on Sunday 29 November. They have been on a national tour performing, Blind and Broke. The Scotsman wrote of Broke, “there’s no resisting the passion with which this young company.”

Forming the company while studying at the l’Ecole Jacques Lecoq in Paris, Rhum and Clay will lead the last master class of the term on Sunday 6 December. Their show 64 Squares, performed at the Underbelly, received four star reviews and was described as “stunningly beautiful” and “an exuberant, entertaining production that manages to be both funny and poignant”

The master classes form part of the new Devising Theatre series of courses, aimed at theatre makers who are interested in making new work in the studio through a creative process of collaboration between artists, improvisation and experimentation. We will also be running three Physical Theatre over the year, with a Directing Theatre course starting next year, all alongside our full range of acting courses for different levels.
