Morley and RML announce Morley Prize longlist for unpublished writers of colour

We are proud to announce the Morley Prize longlist for unpublished writers of colour. In its second year, this annual prize is jointly presented by Morley College London and the award-winning Rachel Mills Literary Agency (RML). Following a line-up of high quality entries submitted in July, we have published our Morley Prize longlist of nine fiction entries and three non-fiction entries.

This year, we created the additional category of Life Writing and Creative Non-Fiction (in addition to the existing Fiction category) to give new opportunities to unpublished writers whose work incorporates the personal storytelling genre.

The longlist of entries can be found here on the Morley Gallery website and shortlisting will be announced in late September. The winner will finally be unveiled at a special Morley Prize Award Ceremony on 20 October 2022 to coincide with Black History Month.

Morley College London is hosting a number of other related Black History Month celebrations, including a showcase of the music of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, hugely popular and one of the first Black composers in 18^th Century London. A concert, The Master Composer: Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, held in our Emma Cons Hall, will directly follow the Morley Prize announcement for guests who would like to join us at the follow-on event as well as members of the public.

We look forward to the next stage in the Morley Prize process when we announce our shortlist.

The panel of judges comprises RML’s Nelle Andrew (as Fiction lead), Publishing Director Marianne Tatepo (who will lead the Non-Fiction category), novelist Louise Hare, lecturer Billy K. Kahora and author, Ayisha Malik. Find out about our judges by visiting the Morley Gallery website.
