Grammy Award winning pianist Bill Laurance joins Morley College

Morley College London is pleased to welcome Bill Laurance, two-time Grammy award winning pianist and founding member of the music collective Snarky Puppy, as the 2016-17 Music and Performing Arts artist-in-residence.

Dubbed a ‘jazz maestro’ by The Guardian, the multi-instrumentalist’s debut album Flint went straight to No.1 in the iTunes Jazz Charts in 2014, followed by his critically acclaimed albums Swift and Aftersun in 2015 and 2016, respectively. His latest CD/DVD “Live at the Union Chapel”, recorded at the iconic London venue in front of an ecstatic sold out crowd, was released on November 11.

Reaching worldwide success as both a solo artist and with Snarky Puppy, Laurance has established himself as a notable composer and producer, performing with a variety of artists such as Morcheeba, David Crosby, Salif Keita, Bobby McFerrin, Susana Baca, Laura Mvula, Musiq Soul Child, and the Metropole Orchestra.

As an artist-in-residence at the School of Music and Performing Arts, Laurance will collaborate with Morley College London students of popular music, jazz and music technology, giving them opportunities to experience recording sessions of material for his forthcoming album, as well as tutoring a one-day course in the College’s Producer Series.

Bill Laurance will also be hosting three masterclass sessions – the first of which will be on 13 December 2016 – and is also scheduled to present a showcase towards the end of his residency. Register for tickets now.
