This exhibition is currently closed as a precautionary measure to help contain the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
This year as part of their course work, our Access to HE Creative Digital Media students have been given the job of designing two shows in this space, within a four week period.
Students visited current shows in London and talked with curators about how a show is mounted and managed. They were then tasked with evaluating their own work in the context of an exhibition and justifying their selections.
The students were asked to use appropriate means to realise and display their work while taking into account availability of resources, immediate surroundings and the location of the exhibition. They also considered any physical limitations of the space, the available equipment, safety considerations and importantly; the need to mount and publicise a democratic group exhibition to best show off their work as they reach the midpoint of their course.
Here the emphasis is not solely on the selection of work to be shown, but also the method of display itself, the space is a test-ground; enlivened by experiment, and students will reflect upon how certain ‘hangs’ affect the communication of the work within the context of the space.
