Workshop: Improvisation and Composition with Bill Laurance

Morley College London is delighted to welcome once more, multi-Grammy Award winner, pianist and composer Bill Laurance, to deliver his second masterclass as part of his residency at the School of Music and Performing Arts.

The format of the masterclass will be divided into two parts. In the first part, Bill will be discussing and answering questions about improvisation and composition. In the second part, we will be accepting 3 participants who will have the chance to play with Bill and ask for any advice on their playing or compositions. Active participants must first apply by sending a link to a video of your playing or compositions to mtech@morleycollege.ac.uk by March 20, 2017. The places will be assigned on a first come first served basis. If you are selected you will receive a confirmation email. There will be a fee of £30 for the chosen active participants.*

About Bill Laurance

Grammy Award® winner and original member of the internationally acclaimed Snarky Puppy, Bill Laurance released his debut album Flint in 2014, and after going straight to No. 1 in the iTunes Jazz Charts, received international critical acclaim. His second album Swift was released on GroundUP Music in Spring 2015.

Classically trained, Bill has worked as a professional musician since he was 14, touring internationally as a pianist, keyboard player, composer, producer and arranger, recording and or performing with artists including: David Crosby, Morcheeba, Salif Keita, Bobby McFerrin, Susana Baca, Lalah Hathaway, Laura Mvula, Jacob Collier, Musiq Soul Child, Chris Potter, Lionel Loueke, Carlos Malta, Miss Dynamite and The Metropole Orchestra.

Join Bill as an audience member or participant at this public masterclass, where he will explore some of his composition and improvisation. Participants will have an opportunity to jam alongside Bill and receive specialist advice on their playing and or composition.
