The Foyer: Summer Postcards
August 28, 2019 @ 11:00 pm - November 8, 2019 @ 12:00 am
See over 40 postcards made and exchanged by Morley printmaking students this summer, on the theme of climate change.
Since the origins of mail-art with the Fluxus movement in the 1950s, artists have used the postal systems as a way of distributing artwork to a wider public. The printmaking dept. at Morley College has run a Summer break print postcard exchange called Arte Postale for seven years now. This time students were asked to consider evidence that our world is changing and that our environment is in severe peril by making prints on the theme of Climate Change.
Students created small print editions utilising any of the fantastic range of processes available in Morley’s well-equipped studios. At the end of term, all participants’ names and addresses were mixed up and randomly re-distributed by post. Over Summer the artists original print artworks with accompanying messages were sent out. Relinquishing any preciousness or concern about damage, students entrusted their miniature artworks to the rigours of the royal mail to eventually find their way to happy recipients.
