Marsha P. Johnson is an iconic figure of color in queer liberation. She was present at the legendary Stonewall Riots and is said to throw the first brick on the historic evening. Bring it in a look inspired by MARSHA P. JOHNSON.
At this year’s Met Gala, the theme was CAMP. But between you and I, many that hit the pink carpet missed the mark. London, we can certainly do better. Bring it in your best CAMP ensemble.
ALL AMERICAN RUNWAY
In the 70’s the Hanky Code began as a sly way to showcase sexual preferences for a community still largely in the closet. Black, blue, red, purple, and many other colors of hankies found their way into the back pockets of the LGBTQ+ community. Bring it on the runway with your preference of HANKY in your back pocket.
BUTCH QUEEN VOGUE FEMME
Gilbert Baker in 1978 designed the iconic Pride Flag. But fun fact: the original pride flag had a hot pink strip! Bring it in a HOT PINK number.
FEMALE FIGURE PERFORMANCE
It’s Pride month so bring on the GLITTER because you can never get enough sparkle in your life. Come to the runway with a look that will blind us all by all the glitz and glam.
Some embrace stereotypes, but for many, the cliché doesn’t match who they are at all. So, let’s BLUR GENDER BOUNDARIES of fashion by bringing an androgynous look.
The 70s and early 80s saw a great integration of elements of leather culture in queer subculture. Tickle us pink with as much or as little LEATHER effect (vegan friendly options are welcomed).
Vogue, the dance and the culture, continues to be as culturally relevant as ever. We must pay respect and dues to our forefathers and mothers, such as Paris Dupree, Octavia St. Laurent, Willi Ninja, Pepper LaBeija, Dorian Corey and many more. Make us ooh and aww over an inspired look from the LEGENDS and ICONS of years past.
