Penny Lecture: Designing the London Eye and Other Icons
June 27, 2016 @ 12:00 am - September 22, 2016 @ 12:00 am
Come and be inspired!
Ever wondered how an architect begins the design process to realise a large scale project? Julia Barfield MBE RIBA FRSA will take you through this process and will talk about the history and design development of the practice’s iconic ‘London Eye’ as well as other local schemes by Marks Barfield Architects.
Julia is a founding director of Marks Barfield Architects (MBA) together with husband and partner David Marks – the originators and creative entrepreneurs behind the design and realisation of the London Eye as well as the British Airways i360.
This talk forms part of the Morley College London’s Penny Lecture series. Penny Lectures began in 1882 at the Old Vic Theatre in Waterloo. Topics were chosen to encourage new thinking and ideas and provided illustrated lectures at affordable prices…a penny! The lectures were a huge success and quickly led to the establishment of ‘Morley Memorial College’ for Working Men and Women or Morley College as we know it today.
