In this Penny Lecture, an International Women’s Day event, Dr Clara Jones introduces and explores the only record Woolf made of her experiences of Morley – an unpublished sketch held in her literary archive. In this ‘Morley Sketch’ Woolf rehearses her early ideas and anxieties about gender, class and professionalism, themes that are also central to her first novel The Voyage Out (1915), which this lecture will touch on too.

Dr Clara Jones is a Lecturer in Modern Literature at King’s College London and the author of a book on Woolf’s politics called Virginia Woolf: Ambivalent Activist (2016). Buy Clara’s book here.
