GOING PRO: How to build a 21st century career in music

This two-hour workshop will study profiles of professional musicians between the ages of 25 and 35 years of age. The class will discuss and build on their example, and apply those experiences and strategies to class-driven topics.
“Going-Pro” will take several examples from young artists in popular music, jazz, classical music and television, and use their example of how to created new prospects for success within the music and arts World. The class will provide a template for the participants to get perspective on the current World of the professional musician, and offer ways to deploy this new perspective immediately.
Richard Smith is a Professor at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. His former students are working from Broadway and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, to recording and touring with Marc Anthony, Snoop Dogg, Michael Buble, Elton John, Christina Aguilera, Miley Cyrus, Madonna, John Legend, Bono, Maroon 5, Jenifer Lopez, John Mayer, Gwen Stefani and current hit programs American Idol, MTV’s Teen Wolf, Dancing with the Stars and Glee. His 13 recordings as an artist have established him as a veteran of the American contemporary jazz and instrumental pop scene.
