Cultural Patterns: Works On Paper
December 19, 2018 @ 12:00 am - March 22, 2019 @ 12:00 am
Students on the Advanced Textile Workshop at Morley College London will showcase their explorations of the theme ‘Cultural Patterns’, inspired by the artistic practises of the people of the Pacific islands, Japan, Korea and Indonesia.
Through research, artistic developments include how cultural artefacts are given meaning through decoration elevating their status to something more powerful. Symbols are questioned and reimagined to make meaningful connections and coded messages.
Processes include: cyanotype, heat press, cut-outs, sewing, drawing, painting. Print is used as a tool in conjunction with folding techniques to play with light, shadow and geometric form.
All works involve paper – R.K.Burt is a gallery and specialist paper supplier based in Southwark. This show forms part of the MADE 2019 exhibition at the Morley Gallery.
