Cardew Space: LPs and Silkscreens
October 1, 2017 @ 12:00 am - December 15, 2017 @ 12:00 am
In this exhibition artworks from two different print projects – Silkscreen and Respond – are shown.
Students have been invited to show a print that they have made during the Silkscreen on paper (VPR084) course. The prints chosen represent the varied techniques employed to explore different methods of screen printing, including making stencils, exposing an image onto a photosensitive screen and by adding a wax mask to the screen using Tjanting tools. Students apply these methods to create the outstanding and unique artworks.
Students went to visit the Exhibition at the V&A Museum ‘You Say You Want a Revolution? Records and Rebels 1966-1970”. The exhibition examines a time of significant political and social change, an era of Revolution in Music, Art, Fashion, Sex, Gay Liberation, Technology and Consumerism, a time when youth culture powered an optimistic idealism with the underlying idea that imagined a better world and better way to live. The exhibition is filled with LP covers evocative of this time in history representing the musical tastes of the time the covers depict the vibrant design trends and incorporates iconic images of the era. The students were asked to respond to the iconic album cover in an abstract or figurative way and create a printed, multi-coloured, mixed media artwork, employing intaglio and relief techniques in combination.
