Bawden Cases: Thinking Through Making
March 28, 2017 @ 12:00 am - June 1, 2017 @ 12:00 am
The work on display is a snapshot of the outcomes from the Advanced Metal and Constructed Sculpture class at Morley’s Pelham Hall sculpture studio.
Every Thursday afternoon the group engages in a wide variety of creative construction with increasingly varied material and concepts. Recently this diverse and energetic class has grown in number, but also become more experimental as it has accumulated sound craft from this well-equipped workshop.
There is a lively, playful and challenging atmosphere where each student is encouraged to pursue their own line of enquiry in three dimensions, with the support of regular group, lively critical debates and our excellent technician Steve Hodgson, these artists continue to surprise me with their responses to my endless provocations. The title, Thinking Through Making, reflects on the creative playful making of objects in space and time which is a defining characteristic of being human and that for Sculptors ‘research’ is a ‘doing’ – a worldly activity of mind and body and material.
