Bawden Cases: Clubbing Morley Style – a look back
March 14, 2017 @ 12:00 am - April 26, 2017 @ 12:00 am
Looking through Morley Archives one cannot help notice the proliferation of Clubs and Societies at the College.
In the first issue of the Morley Magazine in 1892, there were no less than five Clubs mentioned: Debating, Natural History, Cricket, Swimming and Draughts, with a suggestion of a Cycling Club. By 1900, many more Clubs had been added including Women’s Games, Cycling, a Book Club, Gymnastics, Shorthand Writer’s Club, a Dramatic Club, Tennis and a Literary Club.
This display showcases just a few of these clubs with items from our archive including the 1946 Stansfield Cup Fencing Trophy, Cycling Club log books and the wonderful Morley History Society record books, rescued from a junk shop by an eagle-eyed student.
