Barbara Christie Case: Siblings

Presenting new works by five jewellers who took part in a Mixed Media Jewellery short course with Joanne Haywood.

New artworks were created in a nine month period after the course, with jewellers taking the design challenges and processes learnt as starting points, to generate new mixed media jewellery.

Many of the works are for sale and commisions are often welcome.

Felicity Denby 

Material interrogations inspired by the course have lured me towards new ways of working with familiar processes:  press forming, chemical patination,  photo etching, electroplating, kum boo and cold connections.  Unpracticed materials  rubber, steel and resin and fibre have joined in the fun.

Claire Hender

My work explores – and revels in – the contrasts and harmonies that can be created with shape, line, texture and colour. For my ‘Siblings’ collection, I have experimented for the first time with combining contrasting metal colours with stitched and woven thread elements.

Leana Kasapis 

I work in various materials including silver, textiles, acrylics and semi precious stones, and use processes such as photo-etching, forging and the ancient Korean Keum Boo. I draw inspiration from the timeless beauty of geometric forms, used for centuries across cultures to decorate sacred locations, personal spaces and adornments.

Sarah King

My new works “Stronger Together” incorporate wet felted merino wool transformed from delicate fibres into strong, resilient, almost impermeable elements; held together and decorated with hand dyed merino yarn.  

Alison Macdonald

My pieces are made from etched, patinated and stitched copper or brass, some with bound textile or rubber cords.  My jewellery is inspired by 19th century botanical drawings of Irish cryptogams collected by a member of my family.
