What you will learn

Consolidate your basic knowledge and use of Yoruba as you learn to communicate in a wider variety of everyday situations.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Talk about everyday situations (e.g. routines and hobbies)
  • Talk about your health, hygiene and parts of the body
  • Describe people, places and things

    • Practising speaking and reading
    • Learning through practical activities (individual tasks, role-plays, pair and small group work, games)
    • Writing basic single words and short sentences, e.g. gap-filling

    Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e.: progression to an advanced- level course. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress your individual learning aims will be established during the course. It is important that you are committed to regular attendance. You will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment

    What you need to know before you enrol

    Regular work is given to be done at home, to support and consolidate your learning. You should therefore dedicate some time for this on a weekly basis. The tutor uses Moodle/VLE to post material for the lesson, and help you prepare for the coming lesson. It is important that you have access to a computer, for the duration of the course, and that you consult Moodle at least once a week. There is also full computer access in the library. The course will be delivered online. It is important that you have access to a computer for the duration of the course.
