What you will learn

Develop your skill in using Yoruba language in a range of practical and social situation. Build on your knowledge of past and future forms, and practice using them in everyday communication (e.g. asking and telling someone the time). This is one of Africa’s most widely spoken languages, which is a good language to speak if you are thinking about travelling in West Africa or just to connect with families and friends.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • understand and use numbers in Yoruba for the purpose of counting, ordering, understand the clock and the different elements e.g. time, hours, seconds etc. as well as identify the different times of the day .
  • use variety of question words in various context (e.g. when, what, where, which etc.).

    Practice speaking and reading . Learning through practical activities (individual tasks, role-plays, pair and small group work, games) Writing basic single words and short sentences, e.g. gap-filling. Listening for the gist or basic information
