There are other versions of this course available. We’ve listed them below and summarized the differences between the one that you are currently viewing.
Each session begins with a range of vocal warm ups and exercises. For the main part of the session, the tutor works individually with each student on their chosen song, focusing on a selection of aspects of performance (such as musical and textual precision, expression and interpretation of the performance instructions, pronunciation of the text etc) with the rest of the group observing and offering peer feedback. There are opportunities to ask questions. There will also be opportunities to observe videos of professional performers and engage in group discussion on how they sing. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment. Achievement on your course will be measured by your progress towards achieving the learning outcomes will be reviewed throughout the course. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e.: progression to another course.
You must have confidence singing in front of others, and be able to pitch notes correctly, and with a good sense of rhythm. Familiarity with music notation is beneficial, although not required.
To benefit from this course, you will need to be willing to perform your prepared solo repertoire in front of your peers and tutor. Your individual repertoire of songs will be chosen in conjunction with the tutor and/or need tutor approval to ensure they are suitable for your voice type, level of experience and personal goals.
You will need three copies of your chosen songs (one for the tutor, one for the accompanist, and one for yourself), and any preferred personal equipment for taking notes on your progress and further goals, eg. a recording device such as your smartphone, or a notepad and pen.
Morley College offers many singing and musicianship courses. Solo Singing 3 and Enjoy Your Voice 3 represent the next stage in singing solo, but you might like to consider singing as part of a group e.g. Morley Voices or Morley Choral Society.
