The UAL L2 Diploma in Art and Design has been developed to provide 16-18 year old students with an interest in Art and Design the opportunity to explore materials, methods and processes working in well- equipped specialist studios. This course is project based in response to a range of themes to encourage and support your interest to develop your personal ideas, with a strong commitment on a practical, hands on interdisciplinary approach, creating 2D and 3D objects, designs and artwork. You will be working with disciplines such as ceramics, glass, jewellery, interior and product design using a wide range of materials including glass, metal, clay, plaster, wax, textiles and with the opportunity to explore model making processes, paper drawing and printing media. Alongside studio practice, this course covers general art and design principles, history of design, drawing skills and colour theory. Course activities include museum and gallery visits, liaison with trade and industry and exploration into the context of contemporary art and design practice in the 21st century. Our aim is to provide a sound base of practical skills and knowledge in the art and design sector, while enhancing self-confidence and revealing the potential career opportunities. Using these experiences students will access a relevant network and produce a portfolio of design work to prepare them for the next level of study or work.
