This UAL Level 2 Diploma with specialism in glass runs over 2 days per week for adults – Mondays and Tuesdays from 10:00 to 4:00. The course is project-based and students are given encouragement and support to develop their ideas. There is also a strong commitment to the development of 2D and 3D on glassmaking skills as a tool for the communication of ideas. This programme covers a variety of techniques from architectural stained glass, surface decoration on glass, mould making as well as kiln-formed glass. It offers an invaluable opportunity for students to understand glassmaking in Art and Design; from concept to final product developing a wide range of glass techniques. Freehand & Technical drawings and 3D model making are also taught on the course. Alongside studio practice, this course covers general art and design principles, history of design, drawing skills and colour theory. Course activities include museum and gallery visits, liaison with trade and industry and exploration into the context of contemporary art and design practice in the 21st century. Using these experiences students will access a relevant network and produce a portfolio of design work to prepare them for the next level of study or work.
