What you will learn

The Kenningtones' grew out of an exciting project that brought community choirs from Lambeth and Southwark Borough Councils together. It performs at a variety of community events and sings a diverse range of music. There is a wide range of background, ability and experience but the joy of singing binds this group together under the expert leadership, musicianship and drive of Cerys Hogg, their conductor. Ideal for singers wishing to explore a variety of music styles and improve their ensemble performing skills.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Sing in a range of popular music styles such as classic soul, jazz, world music, rock and pop
  • Gain a basic grounding in vocal technique
  • Develop your rhythm and pitch
  • Build repertoire and work toward performance

    Mode of delivery: This course will be taught online, and instructions about joining the sessions will be sent to you ahead of the first session. The tutor will be teaching exercises and songs from the piano, while providing scores of the music. Typical activites: Vocal warm-up exercises & exercises in choral singing Learning songs in a variety of styles, by ear and from music in unison, or in simple 2-voice part harmony

    Entry requirements

    The Kenningtones is open to everyone - there are no auditions. Music is taught by ear although writing notation is distributed for anyone wishing to learn using the music sheet available. You just need a desire to sing, to have fun and to create some great music as a group.

    What you need to know before you enrol

    This course is open to anyone wishing to explore simple group arrangements of songs in a variety of music styles.

    What you need

    You will need to have downloaded and be able to access the resources provided by the tutor ahead of each session. Help and guidance will be provided by the tutor at the start of the course. You will also need: - Internet connection - A computer with microphone and camera (e.g. a PC/laptop/iMac/MacBook), or a tablet/iPad/smart phone/iPhone if you don't have a computer. - A separate device and speakers to be playing the pre-recorded piano accompaniment -Access to the electronic material provided by the tutor (eg. song lyrics, sheet music etc)
