This short, non-accredited course is designed to help you gain the skills and knowledge you will need for the accredited GCSE English Language course. It’s an essential component in your journey to achieving a good grade. Your learning will focus on building solid foundational skills in reading and writing, ensuring you are better able to succeed in the accredited course.
You will work to develop your reading and writing skills. You will work on your own and in groups to discuss and share ideas. You will also complete regular reading and writing assessment tasks. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goal i.e. progression to the accredited GCSE English Language course.
You must be fluent in spoken English and have good writing skills. You may have previously studied GCSE English Language but achieved below grade 4 (grade C). All students must sit an assessment to ensure they are at the right level to begin the course. Not all students who apply are offered a place. Assessment dates are updated regularly on our website.
Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students. You will be required to study outside of class time and be able to use the internet.
