Are you looking to improve your spelling? Then this course is for you. You will learn how to link the letters in the alphabet with sounds in English, and so get better at pronunciation as well as spelling. Become a good speller, and your reading and writing skills will also improve.
You will work on reading and writing by studying the connection between sounds and letters. You will work on short texts which focus on specific sounds, so you become confident in sounding out new words to read and spell. You will work on your own and with others in a group. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e. progression to another course.
This course is for beginner writers who are fluent in spoken English. All new students need to take an assessment before they can enrol. Assessment dates are updated regularly on our website.
Excellent attendance and punctuality is required from all students. You will be required to study outside of class time.
You will need A4 lined paper, a ring binder folder, pen, highlighters and a dictionary.
If you have excellent attendance and successfully complete the course, you may be advised to progress to a Functional Skills English course.
