What you will learn

Expand your knowledge of recording techniques, signal flow, mixing, and acoustics. Learn to record drums, piano, percussion, woodwinds and backing vocals. Record small bands in our state-of-the-art recording studio. Completion of Home Studio Recording or similar experience is required.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand and demonstrate advanced microphone techniques
  • Set up and assist in running a professional recording session
  • Understand and demonstrate drums, piano, woodwinds and vocal recording
  • Understand and apply reverb, compression, EQ, and other signal processors

    Entry requirements

    A strong interest in music. Access outside of class to a basic recording set up (PC or Mac computer, audio interface, recording software such as Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, etc. and basic microphone) is strongly recommended. Some experience of using Apple computers would be an advantage, but support during class will be given. Basic computer skills, file management, etc.

    What you need to know before you enrol

    Some session will require the handing and lifting of audio equipment such as microphone stands, cables. Advice on safe handling of equipment will be given at the beginning of the course. Due to the nature of the instruments/content of the course you might be exposed to high volume levels. We strongly encourage everyone to bring a pair of ear plugs to every lesson.
