What you will learn

This short series seeks to explore the lives of some of the greatest songwriters and storytellers of the twentieth century. The course will trace each artist’s life, exploring the history surrounding their period of activity. Each session will examine each individual’s creative process in an effort to understand how they paired their music and lyrics to create fascinating and memorable tunes.This Summer will focus on several famous Popstars. Each session will consider a different songwriter; Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, Prince and Björk.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Define key features in the music of each studied songwriter that facilitated their songwriting process
  • Identify significant events in the lives of each songwriter that influenced their music
  • Describe specific features of the relationship between each songwriter's music and lyrics
  • Analyse how each songwriter's body of work influenced their immediate communities as well as the wider world
