Monday
There are other versions of this course available. We’ve listed them below and summarized the differences between the one that you are currently viewing.
This class is the ideal starting point for those with basic understanding and relative confidence in vocal production, who want to further explore solo singing, in a variety of music genres. Practise a range of vocal techniques and develop individual vocal repertoire with an experienced tutor and a piano accompanist.
Each session begins with a range of vocal warm ups and exercises. For the main part of the session, the tutor works individually with each student on their chosen song, with the rest of the group observing and offering peer feedback. There are opportunities to ask questions. There is a range of additional group activities, such as sharing videos of examples of vocal performances, and engaging in feedback discussion about aspects of technique and interpretation In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment. Achievement on your course will be measured by your progress towards achieving the learning outcomes will be reviewed throughout the course. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e.: progression to another course.
You need to have at least one year of group or individual singing lessons, and you need to be able to sing in tune, and confident about performing in front of others. The ability to sing notated music would help you to fully benefit from this course, although it is not an essential requirement.
Due to the “master-class” format, you will need to be willing to perform solo repertoire in front of your peers and tutor. Your individual repertoire of songs will be chosen in conjunction with the tutor and/or need tutor approval to ensure they are suitable for your voice type, level of experience and personal goals.
You will need three copies of your chosen songs (one for the tutor, one for the accompanist, and one for yourself), and any preferred personal equipment for taking notes on your progress and further goals, eg. a recording device such as your smartphone, or a notepad and pen.
Morley College offers many singing and musicianship courses. Solo Singing 3 and Enjoy Your Voice 3 represent the next step in solo singing courses, but you might like to consider singing as part of a group e.g. Morley Choral Society or The Kenningtones. The Learn to Sing from a Music Score course will help you understand how to use music notation for the preparation of songs.
