You will be working with the tutor on your individual chosen repertoire each week, focusing on a selection of aspects of performance (such as musical and textual precision, expression and interpretation of the performance instructions, pronunciation of the text etc) with the rest of the group observing and offering peer feedback. For the rest of the session, you will be observing the other students’ work, offering your own feedback, and ask the tutor questions. The accompanist of the course will be recording your chosen song, and sending you the recording which will be using for your preparation, and during the sessions. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment. Achievement on your course will be measured by your progress towards achieving the learning outcomes will be reviewed throughout the course. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e.: progression to another course.
You will need to have had at least a couple of years of vocal training, using 'classical' vocal technique. You also need to be able to sing in tune, have a sense of timing and a basic understanding of musical notation.
This course will be taught online, using the Microsoft Teams platform. Information about how to access and use this platform will be provided by the college ahead of the first session.
You will need to have downloaded and be able to access the resources provided by the tutor ahead of each session. Help and guidance will be provided by the tutor at the start of the course. You will be provided with recordings of the piano accompaniment of your chosen repertoire for your individual practice, and to use during the lessons. However, you will need to inform the accompanist what is your chosen song a week in advance of each session, and you need to send them an electronic copy of the sheet music, in order to receive a recording for your preparation. Full guidance will be provided by the tutor at the first session of the course.
