This course will include an introduction to the ancient technique of drawing in silver and gold and other metals. It is suitable for all levels of experience, whether you want to learn how to draw with metal yourself or are just interested in the technique and wish to learn more about it. Introduced through an illustrated slide lecture considering work from the exhibition at The British Museum: Drawing in silver and gold: Leonardo to Jasper Johns, as well as further contemporary sources of artists working with this medium today. We will consider the qualities, techniques, and potential developments of drawing with a metal point as a potential medium today. This is taught in a series of six workshops providing opportunities to explore first hand and develop new skills using silver, gold and other metal point tools, techniques and materials. Demonstrations will show how to prepare a variety of surfaces, make your own grounds and obtain materials for use and further development.
