What you will learn

Create a natural dye palette using plant extracts and seasonal foraging. Print with natural dye extracts and print discharge methods to remove colour and create pattern. Experiment with a range of pattern and mark making techniques on various fabric bases such as fine woven wool, peace silk and organic cotton and linen. Explore current thinking around issues of sustainability in textiles and current innovations including new fibre types.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Dye fabric using natural dye extracts
  • Print with natural dye extracts
  • Over print & discharge print using natural methods
  • Develop simple screen print designs using stencils
  • Explore and understand natural processes in contemporary textile practice

    What you need to know before you enrol

    This course is on the second floor of the Nancy Seear Building on King Edwards Walk. There is lift access to the first floor only. Good mobility required for stairs to studio and garden

    What you need

    Notebook and pen, rubber gloves and apron. Fabrics are available for sale including organic cotton, linen and silks.
