  • Class format and activities

Sessions will begin with a vocal warm-up, tailored to the week's technical focus and based on individual needs. There will be guidance on vocal anatomy and function specific to the technique studied, followed by performances of short excerpts from songs illustrating these skills. At intervals during the term, you will be encouraged to bring your own repertoire to the class to address specific issues; there may also be recordings made of your performance of excerpts or entire pieces to further your progress and allow good tonal evaluation by the tutor. There will be song excerpts and repertoire lists available during the term to help apply the techniques studied to specific voice types and ultimately to the needs of indivicual singers.

    Entry requirements

You need to have basic experience of vocal training - this is not a course for total beginners. Understanding of music notation is preferred to fully benefit from this course, and ability to sing in tune is essential. This course will be most helpful when combined with a performance course, eg. one of the Solo Singing courses at Morley College.

What you need to know before you enrol

You need some experience of vocal training. The ability to sing in tune and to learn music independently. Some knowledge of music notation will be helpful for quick learning of excerpts or new music. A lively interest in knowling more about your voice and how it works.

    What you need

The material provided by the tutor, copies of your chosen repertoire (when applicable) and notetaking equipment.

    What you can do next

There is a range of singing courses at Morley College where you can apply what you have learnt from this course. We also have various choral and opera courses that may be of interest.
