What you will learn

Explore 3-Dimensional Stumpwork stitchery, to create exciting off-the-surface wired, padded and embellished embroideries with applications to fashion, interiors, storytelling and art textiles

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Learn how to raise the basic embroidery stitches to create 3D effects
Discover how to create separate wired and padded embroidery shapes and ‘slips
Discover how to apply special goldwork wires, sequins, beads and other embellishments
Mount and finish techniques. Instruction sheets and suppliers list provided

Class format and activities

This highly practical and friendly workshop will introduce you to a range of fast and slower techniques. Small group and one-to one tuition will enable you to progress confidently, with detailed diagram sheets, notes, visuals and the tutor’s handling samples.

What you need to know before you enrol

The textiles studio is located in the Nancy Seear block on the second floor accessible by stairs or lift and stair lift combined. If you have any mobility support needs please contact ALS on 020 7450 1972 before enrolling

What you need

Basic materials will be supplied, but please bring a basic sewing kit, sharp pointed scissors, a notebook and pencil, and a small bag of your favourite fabrics and embroidery threads.
