What you will learn

This course is designed for those who have some experience of public speaking but want to take it to the next level. Most of us are unduly frightened of speaking in public, but speeches and presentations are in integral part of our working lives. This online course offers a safe and supportive environment to help you manage your nerves, develop confidence and acquire Public Speaking skills.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Prepare and deliver speeches up to three minutes long
  • Deliver impromptu speeches on topics chosen by tutor
  • Understand basic voice production and develop some vocal technique
  • Understand how to appreciate and evaluate another students’ work
  • Structure a speech
  • Employ the ancient art of Rhetoric
  • Utilise effective and congruent body language

    Entry requirements

    We try to cater for everyone who wishes to improve; a reasonable level of conversational English is preferred.

    What you need

    Pen and paper. If possible, comfortable shoes and clothes. There is a small amount of physical work. This course takes place online via Microsoft Teams so you will need access to a computer of iPad to use Microsoft Teams to engage in the sessions.
