What you will learn

This 10-week introductory course is designed for anyone looking to commence study in Science or who is returning to the study of Science after many years. The course will provide you with an introductory overview in chemistry, biology and physics in a fun and engaging manner. Throughout you will have the opportunity to take part in a range of activities, including hands-on practical work, in our custom-built Science lab.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Classify living things (plants, animals, microorganisms)
  • Describe the characteristics of living organisms
  • Understand nutrition in plants and animals
  • Understand the organisation of multicellular organisms from cells (through tissues, organs and systems) to organisms
  • Construct chemical formulae
  • Describe the properties of the different groups of the periodic table.
  • Construct a balanced equation.
  • Perform basic chemistry calculations
  • State the factors affecting rate of reaction

  • Class format and activities

    A series of fun and engaging sessions delivered by a subject specialist in Science. This course will be delivered in centre at our newly renovated state of the art North Kensington labs. You will learn through demonstrations, lecture, problem solving, videos, and discussion. Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and your own future goals i.e.: progression to an advanced- level course. In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular and detailed feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment.
