What you will learn

The course is designed for students with a general interest in Polish and with a passion to learn new things while having fun. It will cover a range of topics based on students’ own interests and will use a communicative approach, with emphasis on speaking. Students will engage in interactive activities, participate in individual, group and pair work developing basic reading, listening, speaking and writing skills in Polish. Learners will acquire basic language skills and will achieve the equivalent of A1 level.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • be able to communicate in basic everyday-life situations, including greetings, home and family
  • be able to understand simple texts and find information on simple topics
  • have developed an insight into Polish culture.

    As this is an incentre class. Emphasis will be placed on speaking and listening than reading and writing. Assessment Methods: Achievement on your course will be measured by whether you meet the learning outcomes above. At the start of the course you will have an opportunity to discuss these with your tutor and set your own personal targets, linked to the learning outcomes and future goals i.e.: progression to an advanced- level course. In order to ensure you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular constructive and supportive feedback from your tutor.

    No prior knowledge of Polish is required.

    What you need to know before you enrol

    Regular work is given to be done at home to support and consolidate your learning. You should therefore dedicate some time for this on a weekly basis. Access to IT equipment is required in order to access your remote lesson by Microsoft Teams and homework on the Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle) for independent study between lessons. In addition to the IT equipment required to access your remote lesson by Microsoft Teams, you will need your own device to look up words occasionally, a vocabulary book and pen and paper.
