What you will learn

Pearson Level 1 in Essential Digital Skills will allow learners to demonstrate understanding of and competency in the essential digital skills they need for life and work. It will enable learners to engage with digital services and products in everyday life and work. The qualification gives learners the opportunity to: • demonstrate the ability to develop manage and configure devices • apply knowledge and these skills to organise, share and manage files • become vigilant of online threats • achieve a foundation for further study at Level 2.

Class format and activities

Classes will be delivered in the classroom at the North Kensington site, typical activities will include: whole group teaching, group activities, practical exercises, demonstrations, 1-1 Support and guidance. Assessment methods will include ongoing formal/informal tutor assessment and self-assessment. Teaching will be delivered using Microsoft Office 365, MS Teams and other web based learning resources such as YouTube videos, online quizzes. At the end of the course, students will be expected to sit the Essential Digital Skills Qualification Assessment at Level 1.

Entry requirements

This is a Level 1 course for students at general beginner level. All students need to have completed beginners/entry 3 ICT level course/s before or have relevant basic computer skills. You will need an interview by a subject tutor.

You must make sure you can commit for the whole duration of the courses. Regular attendance is important.

You will need a USB/Memory stick and a folder. Pens and paper will be required. You will need an access to a computer at home and do some independent studying.
