What you will learn

The Access to HE Diploma in Creative Digital Media at Morley College London is a well-established, successful course run in partnership with the London College of Communication (UAL). To assist your application to University you will learn both practical skills and theoretical thinking through exciting, challenging projects, which cover a wide range of modern digital media technologies - all taught in specialist studios with the latest equipment and tutors who are practicing professionals. Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

Create a portfolio of your own creative media outcomes through research, experimentation and production
Use software and skills to produce a range of outcomes in Animation, 3D Modelling, Photography, Graphic Design, Video Making and Digital Design
Work towards the achievement of Units of study which will accrue points for University application
Work independently and in groups on set projects to produce strong outcomes
Review options for your progression and practice a range of professional complementary skills, including management of own workflow
Produce work for critical audiences via exhibition and website building
Work confidently in an online learning environment using tools and techniques to present and give feedback

Class format and activities

Produce exciting work across the following disciplines: Digital Animation, Digital Image Manipulation and Output, Graphic Design; Digital Special Effects, Sound Production for Video, 3D Computer Modelling, Photography and Filmmaking. You will work to professional briefs and learn to brand yourself through digital portfolio-building and professional workflow practices. A key part of your daily work will be keeping a portfolio blog and social media presence to share your words and images as you develop your practice. You will also devise and mount your own public exhibition and work on live briefs in partnership with professional organisations.

Entry requirements

In order to participate on this course, you must have an enthusiasm for Digital Media and Design. You must also present a portfolio of work for evaluation at interview. What you need to know before you enrol

Your Access course will be very enjoyable, but also requires real dedication and commitment if you are going to succeed. Your course requires attendance of around two and a half days a week. Independent study time is also expected in order for you to succeed. The course runs from the beginning of September to the end of June. We endeavour to prepare students for the demands of a University degree course in just nine short months. It is therefore essential that you think about how you are going to balance work, family and social life with your studies. You will be expected to do regular work outside of class and sometimes contribute to group projects to hit deadlines. We strive to make the courses as stimulating as possible for everyone, but it does require hard-work and determination on your part.

What you need

You will ideally own a Digital SLR camera with the capacity to shoot video footage. While our facilities provide access to IMacs and Macbooks in the studios with the latest in Adobe CC software it is highly recommended that students have a computer of their own and also have the Adobe CC suite installed. As a student of Morley College you are entitled to a 66% discount on the cost of an Adobe CC complete software licence. Other essential kit includes an external memory drive of at least 1TB, sketchbooks and pens etc. You will be given a list of essential equipment at the beginning of the course and regular advice on essential equipment to support your creative work.

What you can do next

The natural progression from this course would be to the HNC/D in Creative Media production (Visual Effects) at Morley College or one of the BA undergraduate study programmes at LCC. As we are working in partnership with LCC on this course, we can guarantee an interview for every student that wants to apply there. Alternatively, the Access qualification will enable you to gain enough UCAS points to apply for Higher Education courses at other universities and colleges, as well as specialised short course programmes.
