What you will learn

In this Night Photography course, you will concentrate and use photographic techniques that will allow you to capture the city in a captivating way. You will learn how to work with natural and artificial light at dusk and at different levels of darkness. You will explore your creativity by taking photos using long exposures and will capture moving subjects with light trails. During the sessions, you will develop skills and create interestingly composed photographs; you will also explore the possibilities of ‘painting with light’. Our enthusiastic and experienced tutor will provide feedback and great tips for night photography and will take you to some great locations where you can practice photographing in the dark.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Use your camera in manual mode and achieve well-exposed photographs in low lighting conditions
  • Acquire a good understanding of long exposures and how to achieve them
  • Produce a range of well composed photos with different lighting effects

    Entry requirements

    In order to join the course, you should have a good understanding of the basics of photography in terms of ISO, shutter speed and aperture.

    This course is suitable to those who have a passion for photography and particularly night photography.

    You will need a DSLR (or mirrorless) camera that will allow you access to manual controls. You will also need a tripod.
