  • Class format and activities

In the first couple of sessions you will work on the interpretation of one or two songs of your choice with both tutors. They will also introduce basic aspects of vocal technique and movement. The following sessions will be divided into movement and acting workshops led by Tim Taylor, and singing exercises and vocal coaching sessions led by David Dellaire. The second part of the term will introduce solo and ensemble numbers suitable for the students’ voice types, which may include dialogues, and which will be presented in an informal end-of-term student performance.

    Entry requirements

This is a mixed-level course that trains your vocal and acting skills in music theatre. In terms of musical requirements, the ability to pitch notes correctly is necessary. Learning music from a music score can be beneficial, although not required. Previous vocal, acting and movement training is not necessary- the choice of repertoire and its demands will depend on your background.

What you need to know before you enrol

The course is tailored to students’ abilities and level of experience on all aspects of the course (singing, movement and acting). If you have any specific circumstances that may affect mobility, please discuss these with the tutors in the first session, who will be happy to make arrangements.

    What you need

You will need three copies of your chosen songs (one for yourself and two for the tutors), as well as any note-taking equipment such as a device for recording your sessions, or a notepad and pen. Please wear comfortable outfits for the movement sessions.

    What you can do next

This course can be repeated for as many terms as you and your tutors feel can be beneficial.
