What you will learn

An introduction to jewellery making for those wishing to learn how to work with traditional precious metal working techniques. Students will practice using copper and learn how to make and size rings. The course will explore using wire and sheet to create ring designs. We will experiment with surfaces textures, finishing and polishing and learn how to shape and solder rings with decorative elements.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • How to understand the annealing and work hardening properties of base and precious metals and apply this to handling metal in the workshop
  • How to use specialist jewellery tools to shape and form a ring and achieve the desired ring size
  • How to solder copper (or silver) to join a band of metal to form a ring
  • How to apply simple decoration to band rings
  • How to use a range of tools to apply texture to metal surfaces
  • How to finish and polish metal
