This is a friendly non-audition choir, led by conductor Jack Stone. Ideal for singers who wish to develop their musicianship and vocal skills while gaining experience singing in a mixed choir. Sessions start with a mixture of vocal warm-ups and simple musicianship exercises to improve sight-singing. To join the choir some experience of singing in mixed choirs, or basic sight-singing skills and the ability to hold a tune is helpful. When enrolling in the Morley Choral Society this term, you are committed to regular attendance in rehearsals and performances, and to buy your own copy of the music you will need for the coming term.
The sessions will commence with a range of physical and vocal warm-ups. For the main part of most sessions, the choir will be rehearsing the works it will be present in a live public end-of-term performance at the end of the term. In some sessions, the tutor will introduce exercises that aim at improving sight-singing and musicianship skills.
You will need to be able to pitch notes. Although sight-reading is not necessary, you will be encouraged to follow the music and the text.
